Postnatal exercise testing
This is a harder one to advice as it will depend on your starting postion, pelvic floor strengthening and assessment will be one of the key monitors.
Variations of research.
Unlike many areas, recommendations for postnatal exercise testing vary from one source to another.
There is no one accepted protocol for postnatal exercise testing rather, you will find general guidelines that are applied differently from one woman to another.
Basic recommnedations.
The basic recommendations are simple that new mothers should not return to full daily activities until 6 weeks after birth, or 12 weeks after a caesarean section. In general, most women simply wait until they get clearance from their doctor that it is safe to resume training.
Your interpretation.
However, what you can and cant do depends on the interpretation of full daily activities for a competitive triathlete is could be two workouts per day, while for someone who is normally sedentary, it might mean an occasional walk, or a trip to the grocery store. So what you resume, and when, will depend largely on your condition and exercise program prior to the birth.
Getting started.
There are some activities you can begin straight away, however. The most commonly recommended activities to resume quickly are exercises for the pelvic floor and lower tummy muscles, and walking. Getting out and about for walks with the baby is a great for your physical and mental health.
