ARE YOU AND YOUR CLIENTS 'BORN TO SURVIVE'?

If you're after a new challenge for you and your clients, then look no further than the newest fixture in the UK's obstacle racing calendar, Born Survivor. Designed by members of the elite corps of Royal Marine Commandos, Born Survivor aims to break new ground as the toughest and most innovative event in the country, with military-inspired obstacles designed to test fitness, determination and team work to the limit.

The first of its kind in the UK, this gruelling event takes place in the Lake District in April 2015 at the ordinarily tranquil Lowther Castle near Penrith. However, this stunning venue, nestled amid rugged parkland on the edge of the Lake District National Park, will be shaken to its core when over 2,000 individuals and teams embark on what could be their toughest challenge yet.

Should you choose to enter a team of like minded clients, you'll soon discover the location delivers a lot more than just an historic Lakeland setting. The 10km course has been carefully designed by elite forces to incorporate 38 hard-core military obstacles, as well as incorporating 1,000ft of lung busting ascent. So you can expect muscle sapping mud, sinew straining slopes, icy river crossings and some special survivor surprises along the way, all delivered in a genuine armed forces atmosphere.

Rewriting Obstacle Race Rules

The brainchild of an ex-Royal Marine Commando and Falklands veteran, the Born Survivor team is determined to stage an event that separates it from other obstacle courses in the UK and across the globe. It's certainly a bold new twist on a tried and tested formula, something the organisers say they know is what obstacle racing needs.

"Born Survivor isn't your average 10km or mud run, it will be brutal and raw. We've created a format that rewrites the rules of obstacle racing. What really sets our event apart is its genuine military credentials; our direct links to elite British regiments enable us to deliver authentic challenges modelled on real life commando, paratrooper and special forces assault courses from around the globe."

Team Work

The organisers are quite clear that team work is an integral component of the Born Survivor experience and say, even if you enter as an individual competitor, you will need help from other combatants to get over, under or through some of the obstacles. With that in mind, it's a great opportunity for personal trainers and their clients, friends and family to get together and take on the challenge as a team.

"The event provides the perfect focus for personal trainers to drive their clients towards, as well as offering a unique opportunity for them to compete against similar teams from across the country. Make no mistake though; this is going to be tough. Trainers will need to tailor their clients' programmes to prepare their bodies and minds to cope specifically with the obstacles and terrain they'll face. Choosing to take the Born Survivor challenge will inevitably mean suffering along the way and participants will need to be prepared to push themselves to the limit and beyond. But the glory and satisfaction of crossing the finish line as a team will mean all of the hard work will be well worth it."

A Weekend To Remember

Above and beyond the course, Lowther Castle will be transformed into the Born Survivor event village, where festival inspired fun and games will last all weekend and feature a wide range of awesome event extras, including: On-site camping facilities from Friday to Sunday, post-event live music from The Seals, licensed bars and quality catering facilities for pre and post race fuelling. Individual competitors and teams will set off in waves of military precision and be cheered on by a packed crowd of enthusiastic, mud splattered spectators. Participants will also be spurred on to cross the finish line with the promise of a jam packed goody back, which will include, what are set to become, the much coveted Born Survivor dog tags.

What Next?

Plans are afoot to deliver a series of regular Born Survivor events across the country in 2015 including an Urban Survivor and an insane sounding 100-obstacle Centurion challenge. With registrations for the inaugural challenge already flooding in from seasoned event-goers, it looks like the picturesque Lowther Park could herald the birth of a brave new world of obstacle racing.
