Training for Endurance
What is Endurance? & why is it useful?
One of the key attributes of physical fitness, endurance is defined as performing low to medium intensity activities for an extended period of time.
Sports it can cover.
Endurance This period of time can be as little as four minutes (1500 metres track running), or as much as three weeks (the Tour de France).
As that range suggests, training can vary widely depending on the event you are training for. Quite simply, the longer your race or event will be, the longer your training sessions need to be.
So Variety of training is important.
What complicates this equation, however, is that most people are not only looking to cover a specific distance, but also do it as quickly as possible!
That means that training that is too one paced (the old LSD Long Slow Distance) needs to be supplemented by work done at a variety of faster paces that way as you increase your ability to cover longer and longer distances, you are simultaneously improving the speed at which you can cover them.
Managing expectations.
Get the balance right, and that next 10K, marathon, or even Ironman triathlon, wont seem quite so daunting.
