Prenatal exercise testing
Prenatal exercise testing will give you and your trainer a chance to review your training to allow you to get into the physically best shape for your pending birth and to give you the best chance of a speedy, healthy recovery.
Purpose of testing.
The purpose of prenatal exercise testing is to establish a baseline that will help the PT and the patient to design a workout program to carry the mother through the rest of her pregnancy.
Thus during prenatal exercise testing the trainer will want to establish the pre pregnancy level of physical fitness and exercise ideally this is done during the initial prenatal visit, before the patient is even pregnant.
Information needed.
The health provider will ask about daily activity levels, including both work and recreational physical activities (workouts, sports etc). The medical and obstetrical history will also help to inform the health provider of any factors that might restrict or prohibit exercise participation.
Once the PT has these details, they will have a pre-pregnancy reference point from which an exercise program can be started or continued during the course of the pregnancy.
In summary.
On subsequent visits, the clients response to the level of current physical activity, and any changes in medical history, will allow your trainer to make any changes that are needed to the program.
