Course Introduction

Age should not be a barrier to exercise. For this growing section of the population exercise is an essential ingredient for a happy, healthy and active lifestyle. This 4 day exercise for the older adult course will help you really make a difference to peoples' lives.

Pre-requisities / Entry Requirements

  • Level 2 ETM or Gym Instructor or Aqua or Level 3 Pilates or Yoga or equivalents
  • A minimum of three months teaching experience is strongly recommended.

Course Content

In this course you will explore the physiological, anatomical and psychological changes of ageing; identify safe and effective exercises in relation to a range of medical conditions; and deliver modifications for different conditions and a range of chair based exercises.

So in short :

  • Adapt and deliver exercise programmes for older adults
  • Explore the physiological, anatomical and psychological changes of ageing
  • Identify the benefits of exercise for the ageing population
  • Identify the safe and effective exercises in relation to a range of medical conditions
  • Deliver adaptations and modifications for different conditions and abilities
  • Consider other aspects of working with older adults beyond exercise, including social interaction, nutrition and referral to healthcare professionals
