What Can I Do For You?

I’m a big believer in a holistic approach to training. I believe you have to consider the whole picture before you can work on the specifics. 
 
I’m a friendly and focused trainer, so training sessions with me are fun, challenging and with an eye on the details. I’m always trying to increase my knowledge, learning new techniques and following the latest research to best apply it to my clients. 
 
I specialise in working with injury rehab, sports-specific clients, in particular tennis, golf, swimming, cycling, running and triathlons. 
 
I have over seven years experience in the industry, but prior to this I really struggled with weight loss.  Part of the reason why I became a trainer in the first place was because of the success I had in losing weight and the desire to help others in their weight loss journeys.  If weight loss is something you want to achieve I have personal been there myself and can help you with the right way to lose weight and make a long term lifestyle change.

Michael:

I started my fitness journey in 2010, my waistline was starting to grow and walking upstairs was leaving me increasingly short of breath.  Initially, my goals were to reduce weight and increase cardiovascular performance, but since starting working with Richard in August 2017, my goals have become to increase my body awareness; specifically flexibility, strength, power, stamina and efficiency.  Richard has articulated for me an intuitive awareness of my body, mainly through better mind body connection to help me reach this goal.

Finally, we are working on a goal create a series of "wellness" practices, much improved sleep patterns, eating habits and stress management practices. When I started training with Richard there was a quantum acceleration in my fitness abilities.

There has been a significant improvement in my tennis, through huge strides in poise, balance, focus, stamina/endurance and mind-set.  On the tangible side, I am now at 9% body fat and I now feel competent at any exercises we do without making an arse of myself!

Before I started personal training with Richard I struggled play tennis consistently well.  For example, it is important in tennis to move well, to have fast feet, as this allows you to move to incept the ball in a controlled and precise manner.  This is an area of my game that was lacking. I also suffered from a degree of sports related back pain, and for both the movement and the back pain, Richard devised a set of exercises that tackled the issues and now has solved these issues completely.  With this process, Richard, when and where necessary, explained the purpose of the workouts, gave the right level of encouragement and reward for me.

Richard's gentle, consistent and clear approach, coupled with his vast knowledge of diet and fitness, allowed my confidence and trust in him to grow significantly. Knowing I will learning new and varied skills that my body has and these are just waiting to be discovered is something I look forward to in each session!

I started working with Richard in February 2012.  I wanted to start to be fit again after being sedentary  - as a worker and carer - for many years.  In the beginning my goal was to be able to walk a mile and want to do it.  Now I still to want to walk happily, but keep fit and healthy too. 

I hardly ever miss a weekly session and I’m also getting fitter and improving over the years, even through two extended periods of poor health during that time.  Richard has been encouraging and entertaining while raising my goals and so giving my purpose while keeping me interested.

Walking for a long period has been my biggest struggle with exercise.  But Richard has being encouraging, interesting and explained the positive effects of the various components of our regular training programme.  I really enjoy that my workouts are varied and enjoyable, making me extend myself to do things I did not know I could do – and enjoy them as well.  The encouragement and experience of my trainer makes me want to push further so that I now know that the weekly workouts are an essential component of my regular wellbeing and good health.

To any potential clients I would tell them that the more  you commit fully and are responsive,  both physically and mentally,  to the trainer’s programme and general advice over a long period of time,  the outcomes and benefits will far exceed your initial expectations of what you were capable of.

Jerome: 

I have been training with Richard for two years.  Originally I started to help with my lower back pain and strengthen my core muscles, and to keep up my fitness for skiing.  My goal has now become to exercise regularly in the sports I enjoy (skiing and climbing) and improve in them.  I also want to be in a good physical condition to manage a stressful professional and personal lifestyle.  Richard has enabled me to understand my body better and be more mobile, flexible and stronger to allow me to work towards my goals.  And increased my cardio fitness!

My biggest struggle has been with hip flexibility and glute strength.  Richard has put together training sessions to work on these areas.  He has also introduced me to sports massage and the self-release and stretch techniques I can use on myself.

My advice to anyone considering personal training is to have an open mind, to let your trainer decide which exercises work for a given physical condition and goals.

Since starting training with Richard I feel much better afterwards, both physically and mentally.  Training helps me manage my stress and improve in my sports.

For sessions at home or in the park I have a mat, resistance bands, a trx, a skipping rope and boxing pads.
